" PARTNERSHIPS FOR A BETTER WORLD"
Media entrepreneur Ted Turner made the press headlines when he announced in 1997 his gift of one billion U.S. dollars to United Nations causes, and the creation of a charity (the UN Foundation) to handle the money. A special UN entity - the United Nations Fund for International Partnership, UNFIP - was also created for the purpose of helping select projects for sponsorship. Today, UNFIP is also responsible for developing relations with other philanthropists and donors to international causes. How are these partnerships faring, considering the global economic slowdown? What kinds of projects are being funded, and who benefits from them? In this edition of World Chronicle, these questions are explored with the help of Amir Dossal, the Executive Director of UNFIP.
