"UN'S ASSISTANCE TO LEAST DEVELOPED COUNTRIES"

In 1971 the number of nations identified as Least Developed Countries (LDCs) numbered twenty-five, today that figure has increased to forty-nine, mainly in Africa. The United Nations recently recommended the establishment of the Office of the High Representative to deal with the world's poorest nations. In this edition of World Chronicle the newly appointed Under Secretary General tasked with heading this office, Ambassador Anwarul Karim Chowdury, talks about the decade long programme to assist LDCs out of poverty - as well as advocating Democracy, rule of law and human rights.
