Malians are set to go to the polls on 29 July to vote in presidential elections which are considered crucial for the West African nation's return to constitutional rule and stability.
In accordance with its mandate, the UN Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA) is providing technical and logistical assistance for Sundays first round of voting presidential elections, in addition to support to the Malian security authorities.
The Director of MINUSMA’s Electoral Division, Martin Nadon, said that they are working with the Malian authorities through the entire process from the preparation phase to the training of election officials and to make sure that voting materials are being dispatched widely and on time, being one of the main challenges the state of the infrastructure in the country.

MINUSMA's Electoral Division, supports Malian government through logistics, technical and security but also, at the level of awareness and communication of the actors of the process.
The elections are seen as an important step on the path to recovery for Mali, but insecurity is a major issue for candidates including President Ibrahim Boubacar Keïta, who seeks a second term. Experts warn of a humanitarian crisis as hundreds of schools have closed out of fear of attack.
