You have defended it and acted to make it stronger – pushing for multilateral solutions to solve common challenges” and underlined that “now we need concrete action to ensure results.”

The secretary-General said “we must continue to support developing countries in creating conditions for mobilizing domestic resources” while also urging international community to “take much more effective steps to fight illicit flows of capital, money laundering and tax evasion, which continue to drain vital resources from the developing world.”

The Egyptian President and this year’s Chair of the G77 Abdel Fattah Al Sisi said, “The emerging impact of technologies on youth employment and the capacity to produce represents one of the most important challenges for developing countries, whereby providing employment opportunities to young people in the production sector represents a challenge for most developing countries. Therefore, the group must agree on common vision on this issue.”

Al Sisi also said the Group should agree to focus our endeavors and needs to apply the technological solutions for key sectors such as health, education, food, water and energy. Furthermore, we have to prioritize technologies that provide new employment opportunities without undermining the existing ones.”

The Group of 77 (G-77) was established on 15 June 1964 by seventy-seven developing countries signatories of the “Joint Declaration of the Seventy-Seven Developing Countries” issued at the end of the first session of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) in Geneva and it is the largest intergovernmental organization of developing countries in the United Nations, which provides the means for the countries of the South to articulate and promote their collective economic interests and enhance their joint negotiating capacity on all major international economic issues within the United Nations system, and promote South-South cooperation for development.
