Visiting Colombia’s borderlands, United Nations refugee chief Filippo Grandi urged the international community must do more to aid thousands of Venezuelans crossing each day, many of them seeking protection.
The UN High Commissioner for Refugees visited the Divina Providencia community centre, in Colombian border town Villa Del Rosario where he met with volunteers from both countries who are providing free meals to thousands of new arrivals each day.
Volunteers from both countries at the Divina Providencia serve 6,000 free meals every day, feeding thousands of Venezuelans arriving in Colombia daily.
Irene herself is a refugee from Venezuela..

The centre also offers basic medical care, legal information services and cultural activities. It’s run by a local church with support from UNHCR and partners.

Filippo Grandi is visiting four Latin American countries - Colombia, Argentina, Peru and Ecuador – in order to assess the needs of Venezuelans who have left their country and the nations hosting them. He is also meeting with governments and partner organizations to discuss regional approaches to address the outflow and bring more international support.
