Storyline

The United Nations said today (04 Feb) that 2 million US dollars have been allocated to support critical Ebola preparedness activities in South Sudan.

United Nations spokesperson Stephane Dujarric told journalists that the UN’s Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF) contribution is aimed at protecting “an estimated 440,000 people in high-risk areas of South Sudan, as the outbreak continues in the neighbouring Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).”

The World Health Organization (WHO) reported that although no cases have been confirmed in South Sudan, the country is at ‘very high-risk’ due to its proximity to the DRC.

The CERF funds will help to strengthen surveillance, build case management capabilities, enhance laboratory services and increase infection control and prevention.
