Description

The dependent, submissive heroine of the Indian cinema shows signs of becoming more independent as young Indian women technicians challenge the male-dominated film industry. Women form most of the professional staff at Egyptian Broadcasting, so far with limited effect on the portrayal of women as interested mainly in fashion, cooking and child-raising. By contrast, a low-budget TV show in the Dominican Republic determinedly stresses the achievements of low-income and rural women in contributing to their communities.
