Description
In June 1974, a new United Nations peacekeeping force took up positions in the war-torn Golan Heights. Its mandate, to observe that the cease fire agreements, signed in Geneva by Israel and Syria, were adhered to. Twelve hundred men, most transferred from Sinai, made up the force called UNDOF - United Nations Disengagement Observer Force. The terrain of Golan differs sharply from the sands of Sinai and because of this, there was another consideration - return of a civilian population to the no man's land. Though habits of harmony cannot be learned overnight, perhaps while the thunder of guns remained silent, the people of Golan could live again.
