Description

The devastation caused by Cyclone Idai to the countries of Mozambique, Malawi and Zimbabwe calls for an urgent response by the international community and it has been described as one of the worst weather-related disasters in Southern Africa, affecting one of the poorest regions in the world.

The meeting, organized by the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), in collaboration with the Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA), the World Food Programme (WFP) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) aimed to inform Member States about the impact of Cyclone Idai in Mozambique, Malawi and Zimbabwe The meeting also discussed how to support a well-coordinated response, focusing on immediate humanitarian needs as well as sustainable and risk-informed medium and long-term recovery and reconstruction in the aftermath of the cyclone.
