Press Briefing by Executive Director of UNDCP
Giorgio Giacomelli, Executive Director of the United Nations International Drug Control Programme (UNDCP), talks about the high-level General Assembly meeting on drugs and says there is now a consensus that problems are global and shared. He points out that international cooperation on drug control must contain a master plan, which is made and adjusted according to the analysis of local situations of different countries, and states that action on global drug problem should be taken from national level, namely developing countries such as China, Myanmar, Thailand and Lao, to subregional and regional level. Also, he admits global drug control is a time-consuming process due to various factors in modern society, such as population explosion, organized crimes and different political situations. But UNDCP will do all they can to develop and maintain a certain forward movement in establishing a network in increased drug control.
