Description

Gertrude Mongella, Secretary General of the fourth World Conference on Women (UNWCW) (Beijing, China, 4-15 September 1995), says message of the conference should be to eradicate stereotype of women as weak, vulnerable, miserable, which are all negative adjectives. She appeals to the media to spread the Conference’s message, and hopes that the United Nations will support intensely the result of the Conference. When corresponding to the question that whether women’s life is getting better or worse, Mrs. Mongella states that the well-being of women in different regions develops in different aspects, but there are still many issues to be addressed, such as economic crisis and internal conflicts, which impedes the advancement of women’s equality.
