Description

Ibrahima Fall, Assistant Secretary-General for Human Rights, states that 1993 has been a turning point in Un evolution on human rights. He also emphasizes the necessity of cooperations between the UN system, Governments and NGOs for the promotion and protection of human rights.

James Grant, Executive Director of United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF), speaks about positive achievements in human rights, such as the end of apartheid, in spite of continuing human rights abuses. Erica-Irene Daes, talks about the millions of indigenous people and minorities that are still suffering from human rights abuses.

Adama Dieng, Secretary-General of the International Commission of Jurists, expresses the hope that Governments should act by giving more funds to human rights programmes instead of just talking. Fatima Ibrahim, President of the Sudanese Women’s Union, indicates that we have to unite our efforts worldwide to get Governments to implement Convention they have signed.

Father Julio Tumiri Javier mentions that the majority of farmers in Bolivia live under inhuman conditions without basic human rights.
