Storyline

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said to defend multilateralism, “it is imperative to deny the United States any perceived benefit from its unlawful unilateralism, and to forcefully reject any pressure it brings to bear on others to violate international law [and] Security Council resolutions.”

Speaking at a High-Level meeting today commemorating the International Day of Multilateralism and Diplomacy for Peace, Zarif said his country had consistently shown its commitment to multilateralism and its engagements with its neighbouring countries attested to this.

He said 14 IAEA reports validated Iran’s commitment to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, which was endorsed by UN Security Council resolution 2231. He said his country kept its word in spite of the failure of the western participants of JCPOA to provide the promised economic dividends to its people following the United States’ withdrawal.

The Iranian Foreign Minister said the list of unlawful and unilateralist policies of the US Administration towards his country and the region was extensive, including designating a sovereign state’s armed forces as a terrorist organization, and recognizing illegal and racist annexations.
