The United Nations “remains deeply alarmed” by the ongoing fighting in northwestern Syria which left “at least 160 civilians dead, hundreds of thousands of people displaced, and put three million people in the crossfire,” a spokesperson for the Organization said on Monday (3 Jun).

“Shelling and airstrikes, including the use of barrel bombs, continue in Idlib, in western Aleppo and in northern Hama,” Stephane Dujarric, the United Nations Spokesperson told reporters in New York, adding that “some 307,000 people were displaced between 1 April and 22 May, most of them are living outside camps and reception centres.”

Dujarric also said “in Idlib alone, about 100 schools are now hosting displaced people. The food security and livelihoods of millions of people across Hama, Idlib and Aleppo is at risk following the destruction of crops, farmland and other disruptions to farming.”
