11. SOUNDBITE (English) Mevlut Çavuşoğlu, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkey:
“Contrary to allegations from certain circles, the operation Peace Spring will bolster prospects for the political process. This is because the PYD YPG is a terrorist organization with a separatist agenda. Our operation contributed to the preservation of Syria’s territorial integrity and political unity. These are the principles on which a political solution must be built as we emphasized at the joint communiqué that Sergei Lavrov just mentioned.”

13. SOUNDBITE (English) Javad Zarif, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran:
“It is important that all of us insist on the territorial integrity of Syria. We believe that the territory of Syria should be controlled by the government and the military armed forces of Syria, and they should be responsible for providing security to Syria and to the neighbours of Syria. We believe that there should not be any threat against any of the neighbours of Syria emanating from Syrian soil.”

The ministers of foreign affairs of the Russian Federation, Turkey, and Iran issued a joint communiqué today (29 Oct) in Geneva on the launch of the Syrian Constitutional Committee and the ceasefire in northern Syria, negotiated by Russia and Turkey in Sochi last week.
Russia’s Foreign Minister, Sergei Lavrov, said the statement “confirms our full adherence to the territorial integrity of Syria, confirming our commitment for dismantling terrorism in all its manifestations in this country, and also confirms our intolerance for any separatism in the territory of Syria.”
Turkey’s Foreign Minister, Mevlut Çavuşoğlu, said that “contrary to allegations from certain circles, the operation Peace Spring will bolster prospects for the political process” as the PYD YPG “is a terrorist organization with a separatist agenda.”
Operation Peace Spring, he said, “contributed to the preservation of Syria’s territorial integrity and political unity.”
For his part, Iran’s Foreign Minister, Javad Zarif, said it was important “that all of us insist on the territorial integrity of Syria.”
He said, “the territory of Syria should be controlled by the government and the military armed forces of Syria, and they should be responsible for providing security to Syria and to the neighbours of Syria” and there “should not be any threat against any of the neighbours of Syria emanating from Syrian soil.”
After years of intense negotiation, in late September, Secretary-General António Guterres announced that the Syrian Government and the Syrian Negotiations Commission had agreed to form “a credible, balanced and inclusive Constitutional Committee that will be facilitated by the UN in Geneva.”
