"Africa has the highest informal employment rate in the world, accounting for more than 85 percent of all existing jobs and 42 percent of informal workers in the agricultural sector. Africa must strive to feed Africa. Africa must strive to clothe Africa. Africa must strive to house Africa. The African private sector driven by the move to establish an African free trade zone across the continent must play a fundamental role in meeting the vision of the 2063 Agenda for a prosperous, peaceful and integrated Africa. "

The African private sector “must play a fundamental role in meeting the vision of the 2063 Agenda for a prosperous, peaceful and integrated Africa,” the Prime Minister of Madagascar Christian Ntsay,said today (5 Dec) at the ILO’s African Regional Meeting in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire.
At four-yearly intervals, the African Regional Meeting of the International Labour Organization (ILO) brings together the political, economic and social actors from countries of the Region.
The 14th African Regional Meeting will take place in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire from Tuesday, 3 to Friday, 6 December 2019. The Meeting will be attended the ILO’s tripartite constituents from the 54 countries of Africa as well as representatives of international organizations - both intergovernmental and non-governmental.
The agenda of the Meeting is to discuss, on the basis of the Director-General’s Report and the 2015 Addis Ababa Declaration, the progress made by countries over the last four years regarding the implementation of the Decent Work Agenda in the light of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development as well as the African Union Agenda 2063.
