About 30 participants took part in a sewing training course initiated by the Cabinet Conseil et Innovation in Bangui, in partnership with the UN peacekeeping mission in the country, known under its French acronym MINUSCA . This vocational training is part of the project to reduce community violence and enable beneficiaries, especially vulnerable people, to access economic activities.
"As part of the partnership with UNOPS, we have to train beneficiaries for three months in basic sewing skills and two months to teach them how to work in associations or groups. And the program for this training is three-quarters of the time on sewing basics, and the other quarter of the time is training on social mediation, social cohesion, and conflict management. We not only want to train them in sewing but also give them the basics to become leaders and mediators in their communities, » explains Adelphe Bimba, director of the Cabinet Conseil et Innovation
Professional designers deliver this training. It brings together, in a friendly environment, people from all communities. It is also a way to contribute to the strengthening of the community.
"I was in college. I couldn't finish my degree because of the conflicts in the country,” declared a participant, Nanette Gamanda.
Indeed, sewing remains a prevalent activity, recognized as an excellent way to generate income quickly.
"I chose this activity to be an example for my brothers and to tell them that sewing is not just for women. It's an activity that men can do too,” said Idriss Zamzam.
In Bangui, a total of 808 beneficiaries, including 190 women, benefited from these training sessions, not only in sewing but also in other fields such as mechanics, commerce, cooking, electricity, and driving.
