“Following clashes last week in the city of Alindao, the UN peacekeepers are now patrolling the city to protect civilians including some 400 people displaced by violence who have sought shelter at the UN base. The clashes took place on January 9th and involved country’s armed forces and members of an armed group associated with the ex-Seleca coalition. Two personnel from the Central African Republic’s armed forces died in the violence.”

“Today, the UN mission says the situation is calm despite continuing tensions. They are preparing to send a team to Alindao consisting of police, human rights, justice and prison officers to investigate the clashes.”

“The mission says that all thirteen bases of the ex-self-defense group have now been dismantled. UN peacekeepers continue to conduct joint patrols with the Central African Republic’s internal security forces to protect civilians. The mission has also launched an awareness campaign in PK5 neighborhood to explain to the community its outreach and work to protect the civilians.”

“The UN peacekeepers are now patrolling the city to protect civilians,” following the last week clashes in the Central African Republic’s city of Alindau killing two members of the country’s armed forces, UN spokesperson said on Wednesday (15 Jan) in New York.
During a regular press briefing, the spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General Stephane Dujarric, said “following clashes last week in the city of Alindao, the UN peacekeepers are now patrolling the city to protect civilians including some 400 people displaced by violence who have sought shelter at the UN base.”
Fighting erupted on 9 January between CAR’s armed forces and an armed group associated with the ex-Seleca coalition. Two soldiers have died and according to the UN Office for Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), some 2,000 displaced people- about 640 families - have lost their shelter and belonging and are in an urgent need of assistance.
“Today, the UN mission says the situation is calm despite continuing tensions,” reported Dujarric. “They are preparing to send a team to Alindao consisting of police, human rights, justice and prison officers to investigate the clashes.”
Turning to the efforts to securethe capital Bangi’s most problematic neighborhood called PK5, Dujarric said that the UN mission reported that “all thirteen bases of the ex-self-defense group have now been dismantled.”
The spokesperson said “UN peacekeepers continue to conduct joint patrols with the Central African Republic’s internal security forces to protect civilians. The mission has also launched an awareness campaign in PK5 neighborhood to explain to the community its outreach and work to protect the civilians.”
