The Tenth Session of the World Urban Forum was officially opened on Sunday in a colorful, high tech ceremony at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre, featuring 18,000 registered participants, 580 speakers and 133 exhibitors.

The President of Afghanistan, Ashraf Ghani, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Fiji Frank Bainimarama, and the Chairman of the Department of Municipalities and Transport representing the Local Organising Committee of World Urban Forum 10, Falah Al Ahbabi were among the dignitaries present.

“The growth trajectory of the World Urban Forum demonstrates the importance of Sustainable Development Goal Number 11, said the UN-Habitat’s Executive Director Maimunah Mohd Sharif in her opening remarks. “The concentration of resources, talent, capital and power in city-regions is the mega trend of this new millennium,” she added.
