“The fundamental nature of this contribution focuses on basic hygiene measures and therefore by its volume testifies the strength, vigor and participation of MINUSCA in this campaign. But it also has a very powerful symbolic value in the sense that the nature of this donation, as well as everything that MINUSCA has begun to do on the government's side, compliments the government's actions in protection of public health and hygiene, but also reduce the socio-economic effect of the virus on the population.”

“These products were acquired from local suppliers to support entrepreneurship in the Central African Republic at a time when the economic consequences of COVID-19 are being felt everywhere. In addition to these symbolic contributions, Mr. President, I am proud to inform you that since April, the Central African staff of MINUSCA has been involved in an outreach awareness campaign in the various communities of Bangui, where, with the supporting communication materials, they are spreading the messages of the Ministry of Health, including those on preventive measures.”

The Special Representative of the UN Secretary General in the Central African Republic and head of MINUSCA, Mankeur Ndiaye, officially handed over essential consignments of hand-washing material to the Central African Government in Bangui, to support efforts in the fight against COVID-19.
The ceremony was attended by the President of the Republic, Faustin Touadera, and other dignitaries including the Minister of Health.

The items, consisting of one million bars of soap and two hundred thousand water bottles worth over 191 Million CFA, is a part of MINUSCA’s contribution to boast the governments fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

MINUSCA's contribution also includes the installation of a water bladder at “Hopital Communautaire” to support medical activities including the isolation center managed by WHO and the Ministry of Health, as well as support to SODECA in the installation and operation of water pumps donated by the World Bank.

During the ceremony, the SRSG also handed over 40,000 wind-up radios to the President.
The radios, costing about 128 million CFA, are being distributed to the population in order to keep them informed about the pandemic and preventive measures.
