“Conditions in the camp are very tragic. Medical services are limited, as are hygiene and sanitation; it’s really tragic. It requires more attention and care. There are more than 1,800 families in the camp. Quarantine, isolation, or social distancing, cannot be implemented in the camp due to over-population and crowding.”

“Parents cannot implement a quarantine on their children due to this overcrowding; tents are close to each other, things are in close proximity, there is no way to isolate.

“As a volunteer, I can contribute by raising awareness about health issues and provide much-needed information about health, personal hygiene, washing hands thoroughly with soap and water, and repeating. This is how I can help the people here and to try, as much as possible, to keep this virus out of Abnaa Mhin camp.”

Eutur Alnafra, a teacher and volunteer for a local NGO, is working to raise awareness on COVID-19 amongst residents at the Abnaa Mhin IDP camp in northern Idlib, where she said the conditions are “very tragic."
Alnafra said medical, hygiene and sanitation services in the camp are limited. She said more than 1,800 families are resident to the camp, and as such “quarantine, isolation, or social distancing, cannot be implemented in the camp due to over-population and crowding.”
SOUNDBITE (Arabic) Eutur Alnafra, volunteer aid worker and teacher:

Alnafra, said that as a volunteer, she contribute to preventing the spread of the virus “by raising awareness about health issues and provide much-needed information about health, personal hygiene, washing hands thoroughly with soap and water, and repeating. This is how I can help the people here and to try, as much as possible, to keep this virus out of Abnaa Mhin camp.”
