The UN refugee agency (UNHCR) said nearly 5,000, Central Africans have recently crossed into Cameroon fleeing rebel presence in their villages as well as fear of a rebel advance towards Bangui.
In the Central African Republic (CAR), security conditions have progressively deteriorated throughout the country, including in Bangui. There are indications of imminent attacks by the armed groups in most parts of CAR. Although CAR’s borders with Cameroon and Chad are closed, UNHCR continues to urge these governments to facilitate access to asylum seekers. In the western town of Bouar, the situation is calmer, but rumours are circulating that armed group elements are planning to attack the he UN peacekeeping (MINUSCA) base and the Central African armed Forces camp in the event that the Constitutional Court confirms the election of the President Touadéra.
