The key provisions in the resolution, Woodward explained, include, increasing funding for COVAX, overcoming logistical barriers for delivering vaccines to people in conflicted affected areas or displaced by conflict, and “calling for local ceasefires so that we can bring vaccines to peaple who are in conflict areas.”

The British Ambassador said, “this is a first step of course, but the fact that we have unanimous Security Council agreement and cosponsorship from 112 member states is a strong testament to the international commitment to seeing this happen.”

COVAX is the vaccines pillar of the Access to COVID-19 Tools (ACT) Accelerator. The ACT Accelerator is a global collaboration to accelerate the development, production, and equitable access to COVID-19 tests, treatments, and vaccines.
