“Our humanitarian colleagues tell us that a 3.5 metric tons shipment of medical supplies and equipment were flown in by the UN humanitarian air service in Mekelle in Tigray on Monday. Speaking to reporters in New York today (26 Jan), UN spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric said “3.5 metric tons shipment of medical supplies and equipment were flown in by the UN humanitarian air service in Mekelle in Tigray on Monday.”

The shipment included antibiotics, potassium chloride tablets, and pediatric supplies.

“They will be used for primary health care and nutrition programmes to treat severe and acute malnutrition cases among young children. The supplies will be distributed to health and stabilization centers in 4 districts in Tigray,” added Mr. Dujarric.

According to the UN, more than a year into the conflict in northern Ethiopia, an estimated 9.4 million people need food assistance, and 3.9 million people need health services in Tigray.
