General Assembly: Galvanizing momentum for universal vaccination (Plenary Segment, Closing)- High-level thematic debate, 76th Session
Globally, the pace and reach of COVID-19 vaccinations has been uneven, unfair, and unbalanced. Only 5 percent of people in Least Developed Countries have been vaccinated versus more than 70 percent in high income countries.
This is unacceptable and not only leaves billions of people unfairly exposed to the virus but jeopardizes hard-won gains in the fight against the pandemic as mutations and variants continue to occur, people continue to suffer and die, and economic losses continue to mount.
Recognizing that no one is safe until we are all safe – a reality further underscored by the rise of the omicron variant of COVID-19 – our only respite from the global pandemic is to successfully ensure vaccine access in all corners of the world, for everyone, everywhere.
