“Life is very difficult. The situation is tough, and we are staying in camps. In the winter, we face floods when it rains, and in summer we face high temperatures. The situation is really harsh. We depend on cooking rice and bulgur. If this assistance stops, our situation will deteriorate so quickly. We need all the help and support from people because as you see the situation is hard. If this assistance stops, we will go hungry.”

Storyline

The Security Council mandate for UN cross-border operations from Türkiye to north-west Syria runs until 10th July. With no alternative available to meet the scale and scope of needs, millions of Syrians depend on the Council extending their approval.

Due to the deepening economic crisis and the ongoing conflict, humanitarian and protection needs have increased in the north-west in the last year with 4.1 million people now dependent on aid.

UN cross-border operations began in 2014. Since then, 56,000 trucks with food, critical medical supplies, and other lifesaving help have reached people in the north-west in one of the world’s largest aid efforts. Under the current resolution, the last UN convoy will leave the transhipment hub in Reyhanlı on the Turkish border with Syria on the 8th July.
