“At this point the deployment of the IAEA in Ukraine is unprecedented. Not only have we been able to establish a permanent presence at the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant through the ISAMZ, which is giving you every day, a clear idea of what is going on there. We are also helping the technical staff at the plant face the numerous challenges associated with the running of the largest, biggest nuclear power plant in Europe in wartime.”

“The situation underlying this proposal or at the origin of this proposal have not changed. We continue to experience repeated interruptions, interruptions in the external power supply of the plant, thus risking the possibility of a major nuclear accident. We continue to see shelling over there. As you may have been listening to me, the seven pillars, fundamental principles of safety and security are not being observed at great risk.”

"Wherever you sit in this tragic episode of contemporary history, no one can benefit or would benefit from a nuclear accident to be added to the enormous trauma of the war which is ongoing. So, my request to all of you Board of Governors, is to help the IAEA to support our efforts. If we believe in nuclear safety and security, then your voices in support of this must be heard."

“The program continues to show a degree of I would say advancement, which is of course, something that people are noticing, and this makes it even more important and relevant that Iran cooperates. These are very high levels of enrichment. I have said it many times. So of course, this is an activity that can take place but when you do it, you have to do it in full cooperation with the IAEA.”

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Chief Rafael Grossi today (16 Nov) urged the IAEA Board of Governors to support efforts to establish a nuclear safety and security protection zone around the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant and said, “if we believe in nuclear safety and security, then your voices in support of this must be heard."
Addressing the annual meeting of the Board of Governors, Grossi said, the deployment of the IAEA in Ukraine was “unprecedented.”
He said, “not only have we been able to establish a permanent presence at the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant” through the IAEA Support and Assistance Mission to Ukraine’s Zaporizhzhya Nuclear Power Plant (ISAMZ), but also, he said, “we are also helping the technical staff at the plant face the numerous challenges associated with the running of the largest, biggest nuclear power plant in Europe in wartime.”
Calling for the establishment of a nuclear safety and security protection zone, Grossi said, “the situation underlying this proposal or at the origin of this proposal have not changed. At a later press encounter, the IAEA chief spoke about the situation with Iran. Grossi has just returned from the 27th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, COP27, in Sharm El Sheikh, where the IAEA participated through theAtoms4Climate pavilion - the first ever nuclear-themed pavilion at COP.
