Storyline

UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk on Tuesday (06 Dec) was in Izium, Ukraine. He visited the ruin of destroyed building in which 50 civilians were killed following a bombardment by Russian army.

Volker Türk said, “We are here in Izium in another scene of senseless destruction. You see behind me a multi-story building with signs of life from the past."

The High Commissioner continued, “when the people who lived in this building tried to find shelter, the building collapsed, and we found over 50 bodies and we documented them."

Türk also went to see the site of a mass grave near Izium, discovered after the retreat of the Russian forces.
