“Three peacekeepers from the Senegalese contingent were tragically killed when their convoy hit an improvised explosive device in the cente of the country. We now have the names of the three peacekeepers. They were Quartermaster Eugène Mingou, 50 years old, Private Ousseynou Diallo who was 29, and Private Pierre Boubane who was 36. Storyline

The United Nations has announced the name of the three peacekeepers that were killed in Mali on Tuesday.

Speaking to journalists in New York on Thursday (23 Feb), Stéphane Dujarric, Spokesperson for the Secretary-General, said the peacekeepers were part of the Senegalese contingent to the UN Mission in the country, MINUSMA.

Dujarric said and were “tragically killed when their convoy hit an improvised explosive device in the center of the country.” Five others were seriously injured.

According to the Spokesperson, the victims were Quartermaster Eugène Mingou, 50 years old, Private Ousseynou Diallo who was 29, and Private Pierre Boubane who was 36.

Dujarric added, “We of course send our deepest condolences to their families, friends and all of the members of the peacekeeping mission.

The incident took place Tuesday near the village of Songobia, in central Mali, as their supply convoy was heading to its base in Sévaré.

The Secretary-General has conveyed his deepest condolences to families of the peacekeepers and wished the wounded peacekeepers a speedy and full recovery.
