“We are in Bria, Central African Republic. We just visited a site that had up to 50,000 Internally Displaced People and now with around 35,000. Most of these people could return to their places of origin as the security is back. They need not only the humanitarian assistance that they have received so far but also development assistance. Assistance that allows them to resume their income-generating activities, assistance that will enable them to resume their economic lives. On this visit, we are with our partner, The African Development Bank (AfDB), to assess currents needs and opportunities

4. SOUNDBITE (Franch) Raouf Mazou, Assistant High Commissioner for Operations, Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR):
“We are also here with our colleagues from the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the United Nations Development Programme. With this kind of partnership, we’ll try to create the condition for the return of all displaced people here in the Central African Republic (about 500,000 people) and the 700,000 Central African people currently in the neighboring country who wish to go back to their country. So, our mission’s goal is to go beyond their humanitarian assistance and see how, together with development partners, create the condition for a durable solution.”
