“It's a barbaric situation by the Israeli occupying forces in which they used aircrafts. They used large number of forces and infantry's and mechanized units to attack this small refugee camp. 7. SOUNDBITE (English) Riyad Mansour, Permanent Observer to the United Nations, Palestine:
“We want accountability for those who have committed the crimes of firing the rockets and destroying the homes in the refugee camp in Jenin and killing and injuring large number of Palestinians, including children and women and civilians, to be held accountable and to face the crimes that they have committed against the Palestinian people. Because without accountability, they will continue repeating these heinous crimes against the Palestinian people.”

Storyline

After holding meetings with the President of the Security Council and with the Secretary-General, Palestinian Ambassador Riyad Mansour today (5 Jul) said he had stressed the need to act on “resolutions that ask for providing protection and disarming settlers and having international temporary presence.”

Flanked by Arab states ambassadors, Mansour said, “we stressed on them that they have to do something out of the ordinary. They have to send signals to the Palestinian people, that the international community is not abandoning them.”

He said, “it's a barbaric situation by the Israeli occupying forces in which they used aircrafts. They used large number of forces and infantry's and mechanized units to attack this small refugee camp. And they wanted to destroy the camp completely and they failed to do so. But they created a lot of suffering for our people.”

The Ambassador called for “accountability for those who have committed the crimes of firing the rockets and destroying the homes in the refugee camp in Jenin and killing and injuring large number of Palestinians, including children and women and civilians, to be held accountable and to face the crimes that they have committed against the Palestinian people.”

“Without accountability,” he said, “they will continue repeating these heinous crimes against the Palestinian people.
