“Rent is very expensive now. People are coming back to Chasiv Yar. Although it’s very difficult and terrifying to live here, all of them are trying to get back home. Especially those from private homes with stoves. Winter is coming, and people have no money to pay… Pensions are small, and no salaries.”

Storyline

UN delivers vital supplies to support over 1,000 civilians who remain in front-line Chasiv Yar, Donetsk Region of Ukraine.

Relentless fighting and strikes ripped open most homes and vital civilian infrastructure of this front-line town.

Russia’s invasion inflicted immense suffering on the people of Chasiv and forced 90 percent of the population of this town to flee.

Civilians who remained are cut off from water, electricity and gas. They spend their days in basements and have no choice but rely on aid to survive.

This was the 31st inter-agency convoy to the Donetsk Region this year and the 93rd to front-line communities in northern, eastern and southern Ukraine. In total, the UN, along with our humanitarian partners, provided vital aid to over 8.3 million people in Ukraine in 2023.
