Description

Briefers at the Security Council spoke of the extreme situation for women and children in the Gaza Strip. In the ensuing debate, Council members renewed calls for a ceasefire while also welcoming an agreement, announced on 21 November, that will see women and children held by Hamas — all taken hostage on 7 October — released in exchange for Palestinian women and children detained in Israel.  Several speakers added that women must be part of any peace process.
