“We can see that, in the observance of the five basic principles established at the United Nations Security Council, the physical integrity of the plant has been relatively stable. There have been less, episodes of direct attacks or shelling around it, which is a positive development, although we take it with enormous cautions.”

And this is why we have been looking at other aspects - the water situation, related to the availability of, enough precisely, water to ensure the cooling function of the facility. I was able to look at the wells that had been drilled to provide the water that has been in deficit here after the episode, at the Nova Kakhovka dam.”

“The issues related to the staff and the necessity to ensure sufficient availability of license and authorized staff, has also been part of the discussions we've had here at Zaporizhzhya. In some, an important visit, one that confirms the importance, the indispensable activity that the IAEA is displaying here and of course, our commitment to continue because until the end, until the conflict ends without nuclear accident with radiological sequences, we will not be able to say that our job is complete. But we continue and today has been an important part of this effort.”

Storyline

Finishing his trip to the Zaporizhzhya Nuclear Power Plant, IAEA Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi said, “in the observance of the five basic principles established at the United Nations Security Council, the physical integrity of the plant has been relatively stable.”

Speaking at the crossing line after assessing the plant today (07 Feb), the IAEA Director General said, “we have been able to perform an important visit, which allowed us to complete our impressions on the current stage of the facility of the status on nuclear safety and security.”

Grossi also said, “There have been less, episodes of direct attacks or shelling around it, which is a positive development, although we take it with enormous cautions.”

On the water situation, the Director General said, “we have been looking at other aspects - the water situation, related to the availability of, enough precisely, water to ensure the cooling function of the facility. I was able to look at the wells that had been drilled to provide the water that has been in deficit here after the episode, at the Nova Kakhovka dam.”

On the issues related to the staff and the necessity to ensure sufficient availability of license and authorized staff at the Plant, Grossi said that it has also been part of the discussions while his team was at the Zaporizhzhya plant.

“In some, an important visit, one that confirms the importance, the indispensable activity that the IAEA is displaying here and of course, our commitment to continue because until the end, until the conflict ends without nuclear accident with radiological sequences, we will not be able to say that our job is complete. But we continue and today has been an important part of this effort,” the IAEA chief concluded.
