Some of them have abdominal injuries. Some of them have lower limb and upper limb injuries. One patient with amputation and one patient with pulmonary oedema and lung problems. Those patients are further triaged here to be seen if they are going to stay here in the IMC field hospital or be referred to other tertiary hospital like European Gaza hospital or Abu Yousef Al Najjar hospital.”

12. SOUNDBITE (English) Sara Al Saqqa, Humanitarian Affairs Officer, United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA):
“I never thought that this would actually be happening in a hospital. I never thought that I would ever be trying to evacuate or refer patients from the hospital. Taking patients from a tertiary hospital to a field hospital, that had never crossed my mind. But it’s happening. It's not safe for them to stay there. They don't have the quality of care, the medical care that they deserve, and they need. So that's why we keep on going and bringing them here and there. Because they deserve this care.”

The World Health Organization (WHO) and partners continue facilitating referrals of critical patients amid ongoing hostilities around Nasser hospital in Gaza.
During yesterday (20 Feb)’s mission, an additional 19 patients, including some in critical condition, were transferred to hospitals in southern Gaza.
WHO said that it is devastating to hear about the condition of the hospital compound - full of garbage, medical waste, broken glass, stray animals, deserted vehicles.
WHO stressed that hospitals should always be protected and safe places for people to receive lifesaving care.
