The Head of the United Nations Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUSCO) Bintou Keita, officially transferred the first MONUSCO base to the Congolese government, marking the beginning of the gradual disengagement of the from the country.
The Kamanyola base, established in 2005, will now be managed by the Congolese national police.

For 19 years, in this locality, the UN blue helmets have worked towards the protection of civilians, in coordination with the national defense and security forces.

This transfer of responsibilities is all the more important as it acknowledges the progress made in the area.

The Acting Governor of South Kivu praised the good collaboration between the government and MONUSCO for the security of civilians.

For several years, MONUSCO has supported the establishment of local protection committees in Kamanyola, bringing together all communities working alongside local authorities on security and civilian protection issues.
The day before this ceremony, a joint government-UN mission visited Bukavu, Mikenge, and Uvira to review the Mission's withdrawal and the transition of the United Nations system.
