“A Kamikaze drone hit the area of the canteen on the territory of ZMPP. As a result, three persons were injured, one of them heavily, and the truck unloading the food was damaged. It is worth saying that just 20 minutes before the attack, this area was visited by the IAEA experts in accordance with a previously agreed plan. Precisely half an hour later, 12:08 local time, the strike of a combat drone was detected in the area of the ZMPP cargo ports. And almost three hours later, at 15:05, the armed forces of Ukraine directly hit with a drone a nuclear installation, the dome of the power unit number six.”

Storyline

Russian Ambassador Vasily Nebenzya today (8 Apr) told reporters in New York that over the past three days, the armed forces of Ukraine had “carried out a number of attacks against the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant,” and urged the international community “to condemn these irresponsible and gravely dangerous actions of the Kyiv regime.”

Describing a series of attacks, Nebenzya said, “a Kamikaze drone hit the area of the canteen on the territory of ZMPP. As a result, three persons were injured, one of them heavily, and the truck unloading the food was damaged.

He noted that “just 20 minutes before the attack,” this area was visited by International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) experts “in accordance with a previously agreed plan.”

At 15:05, Nebenzya said, “the armed forces of Ukraine directly hit with a drone a nuclear installation, the dome of the power unit number six.”

He explained that IAEA experts accompanied by the ZMPP employees had visited the sites and had “inspected the places hit with the drones, documented the damage, and remains of munitions and delivery vehicles.”

The Russian Ambassador said, Ukraine’s “Western sponsors, instead of covering up its crimes and supplying it with more weapons and ammunition, should bear responsibility for the reckless actions by Ukrainian political and military authorities and for compromising nuclear safety and security on a global scale.”

According to the IAEA, for the first time since November 2022, Europe’s largest nuclear power plant was directly targeted in military action, representing a clear violation of the five basic principles for protecting the facility established by Director General Grossi at the United Nations Security Council in May last year.
