Much of Attenborough’s work has focused on the wonders of the natural world and how to protect them, from restoring biodiversity and preserving natural landscapes to mitigating climate change and understanding the impact of human activities on the environment. 

Attenborough was awarded the United Nations Environment Programme’s Champions of the Earth Lifetime Achievement Award in 2021, in recognition of his advocacy within the global environmental movement.
