1. Various shots, Under-Secretary-General for Peace Operations Jean Pierre Lacroix visiting a smelting factory to visit Explosive Ordnance Disposal task delivered by The HALO Trust
2. SOUNDBITE (English) Jean Pierre Lacroix, Under-Secretary-General for Peace Operations, United Nations:
“What we've seen here as well and we also saw it in the places that we visited, It's the incredible amount of experience by Afghan men and women who are providing services at the smelting factory, here at the KOO (Kabul Orthopedic Organization) facilities and also in the Encashment Centre. Afghanistan has been dealing with mine problem for many decades, and they've been very effective in, training people and building the kind of skill set that is essential. So what is really lacking is financial resources and support. And we're seeing that around the world and many other similar situations where it's essentially about making sure that the level of financial support will be not only sustained but increased.”
3. Various shots, Lacroix visiting the UNHCR Encashment Centre, Explosive Ordnance Risk Education task delivered by AAR Japan
4. SOUNDBITE (English) Jean Pierre Lacroix, Under-Secretary-General for Peace Operations, United Nations:
“So in that Encashment Centre, what we saw in particular amongst many of the activities and support of these returnees is risk awareness activities, which is provided by a Japanese NGO AAR, supported by the Japanese government and that activity is about providing information to those returnees, to people about the risk that are associated with the presence of mines and other devices and explosive devices in the areas where those people are planning to return.”
5. Various shots, Lacroix visiting a physical rehabilitation centre to see Victim Assistance task delivered by KOO (Kabul Orthopedic Organization)
