“When the strike hit, I was thinking of my children. I was thinking how I promised them to buy them stuff today. I promised them to get to the supermarket and do some shopping and to hug them. But unfortunately, I am here, and they are in a different place. “

“I saw the dead body of a father who was basically holding his child, perhaps around three years of age. They were burned and charred. We couldn't separate them. So, we had to put both of them together in a body bag. It was very, very hard.”

“With this, loud, airstrike that we heard. We just rushed to the hospital in about five minutes or so after arrival, we started seeing ambulances coming in.”

“I think in total we had about 75 patients. Out of those 75, 25 were very critical.”

“We were running out of, basically, stretchers to carry patients in and out. So, it was getting extremely challenging.”

“I chose this as a career for myself about 15, 20 years ago. I'm here with my peers, my colleagues, like-minded people who are here basically to serve as many lives as possible. So, for me, right now, it means everything.”

According to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), doctors at Rafah’s International Medical Corps (IMC) field hospital were among the first responders to the 26 May airstrike on a makeshift camp of internally displaced people.
“I saw the dead body of a father who was basically holding his child, perhaps around three years of age” said Dr. Javed Ali, medical director at IMC.
He added, “They were burned and charred. We couldn't separate them. So, we had to put both of them together in a body bag. It was very, very hard.”
