Description
Denmark, Greece, Panama, Pakistan, and Somalia were elected today (6 Jun) as non-permanent members of the UN Security Council for the biennium 2025-2026 following a vote in the General Assembly.
Somalia will replace Mozambique at the seat of the African Group.
Pakistan will occupy the seat vacated by Japan in the Asia-Pacific Group.
Starting in January, Panama will represent the Latin American and Caribbean Group at the seat being held by Ecuador.
For the Western European and Others Group, there will be two new members: Denmark and Greece.
Both will occupy seats which will be left by Malta and Switzerland, in December.
Their new two-year-term at the Security Council will start on 1 January 2025 and expire on 31 December 2026.
