5. SOUNDBITE (French) Nathalie Broadhurst, Chargé d'Affaires a.i., Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations, France:
“This very short text removes any ambiguity. It abrogates the territorial arms embargo imposed on the Central African Republic in 2013. It imposes restrictive measures on armed groups and individuals associated with them who pose a threat to the country's territorial integrity and undermine state authority. This responds to the Central African Republic's call to combat these armed groups and associated individuals by preventing them from acquiring arms and related equipment of all types. It concerns the stability of the Central African Republic and the entire region.”

“The complete lifting of the arms embargo on the Central African Republic is a significant decision as it marks a historic and crucial turning point for peace and stability, not only in CAR but also for the region. This diplomatic victory constitutes a first step that restores dignity to CAR and its people by making Central African diplomacy a model of perseverance and determination in the quest for a fairer, more equitable world, and consequently a more peaceful future for all.”
