1. Wide shot, UN flag, UNHQ
2. SOUNDBITE (English) Jean-Pierre Lacroix, Under-Secretary-General for Peace Operations, United Nations:
“I am deeply concerned by the sharp escalation along the blue line. As the Secretary General said last night in the Security Council, "Hell is breaking loose in Lebanon and we should all be alarmed by the escalation.” Both the Lebanese and Israeli populations are in extreme danger, with hundreds dead and thousands injured in recent days alone. Regional security and stability is at risk. And of course, I am deeply concerned for the safety and security of the United Nations peacekeepers serving with UNIFIL, our Mission in Southern Lebanon. The protection of civilians is a top priority of the mission and despite the immense challenges they currently face, UNIFIL's peacekeepers are continuing their work and remain in position in the area of operations. What is critical is that the parties must immediately return to a cessation of hostilities and take real action towards full implementation of Security Council resolution 1701 and that the safety and security of all UN personnel and assets must be ensured.”
3. Tilt down, UNHQ
