Addressing the General Assembly High-Level Debate in New York today (28 Sep) Special Representative of President Xi Jinping said, “China is deeply aware that Asia needs stability and development and opposes division and conflict as an important origin of human civilization and a key engine of global growth. Asia has the wisdom and capability to stabilize the situations through regional cooperation and handle differences properly through dialog and consultation. We are firmly against the meddling by countries outside the region.”

Wang Yi also said, “both the Cairo Declaration and the Potsdam proclamation, stated in explicit terms that all the territories Japan had stolen from the Chinese, such as Taiwan and the Penghu islands, shall be restored to China, and this constitutes an important part of the post war international order.”

He concluded, “the Chinese culture values peace, and the Chinese nation has no tradition of external expansion.
