Storyline

United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Peace Operations Jean-Pierre Lacroix met with UNIFIL head of Mission and Force Commander Lt Gen Aroldo Lázaro and Prime Minister of Lebanon Najib Miqati.

The head of the peacekeeping department, Jean-Pierre Lacroix, is in Lebanon today (12 Nov). He started a three-day visit to the country, and his priorities will include expressing solidarity and support for peacekeepers, troop-contributing countries and other partners, as well as for the communities served by our peacekeeping mission.

Lacroix is scheduled to meet with senior most leadership in Lebanon as well as the diplomatic corps, and of course he will be spending quite a bit of time with the peacekeepers in the south.

Force Commander Lt Gen Aroldo Lázaro briefed Lacroix on the current escalation since his last visit in the summer, and on the work that peacekeepers are continuing doing to monitor and report violations, and support civilians

Lacroix also met with Prime Minister Najib Miqati to emphasize the importance of the full implementation of Security Council Resolution 1701 and de-escalation.
