Ukrainian Ambassador Sergiy Kyslytsya said, “We have to make the Russians sit down at the table of negotiations and the only way to do it is by strength.”
Kyslytsya marked the somber milestone of “1000 Days of Russia’s Full-Scale Invasion of Ukraine” during a joint press stakeout at the United Nations Headquarters in New York today (19 Nov). Flanked by representatives of allied nations, Kyslytsya reiterated Ukraine’s steadfast commitment to achieving peace within the framework of international law.
He said, emphasizing Ukraine’s reliance on the international community, “We stand firm and united in our resolve for a comprehensive, just, and lasting peace for Ukraine, consistent with the UN Charter, including the principles of sovereign equality and territorial integrity of states.” The ambassador urged UN member states to “redouble support for diplomatic efforts” in line with General Assembly Resolution ES-11/6, which laid out principles for peace in Ukraine on 23 February 2023.
The Ambassador also underlined the need for strength in dealing with Russia. “We have to make the Russians sit down at the table of negotiations, and the only way to do it is by strength,” he asserted. Stressing the necessity of unity among Ukraine’s allies, he added, “We have to be united to prevent the war.”
When questioned about nuclear threats, Kyslytsya dismissed the notion that Russia’s leadership would resort to such measures, saying, “I don't believe that anyone in the Russian leadership is brave enough to commit suicide.”
Addressing the possibility of nuclear escalation, Kyslytsya remarked, “President Putin was explained very well, a while ago, what would happen if he dared to do the things that he threatens the Western world with.”
