Storyline

Indian peacekeepers serving with the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) play an essential role in supporting livelihoods by organizing free veterinary camps for ailing cattle. Healthy livestock is a must as their thousands of owners depend on these animals being productive.

In the last nine months alone, Blue Helmets from India have treated at least 15,000 cows, goats and sheep, while also distributing vital medication and giving local animal health workers basic veterinary skills to make communities more self-reliant.

Military personal serving with UNMISS are responsible for protecting civilians and creating favourable conditions for the delivery of humanitarian aid. They also support the implementation of the country’s revitalized peace agreement.

Having provided almost 2,400 military personnel, India is the second-largest troop contributor to the peacekeeping mission in South Sudan.
