International Organization for Migration (IOM) Director General Amy Pope visited Damascus this week, engaging with caretaker authorities, humanitarian organizations, civil society, and donor representatives.
IOM operations in Syria have been largely suspended since 2018. The crisis in Syria has left over 90 percent of the population living below the poverty line, with 800,000 people newly displaced in recent weeks.
Pope’s visit included a visit to Al Tamayoz health center, which provides medical services and food assistance to thousands of families in Damascus.
