2. SOUNDBITE (French) Jean-Pierre Lacroix, United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Peace Operations:
“And the progress is visible. And where can we see it better? And of course, by going into the field and listening to those towards whom this work is directed, that is to say the population. The Central Africans, and by listening to the representatives of the population. And even, I would say, the populations gathered spontaneously in Bambari and in the Bambari area. We clearly heard expressions of appreciation for the work that is being done with regard to the progress that has been made. This is also a message that has been sent to us by the authorities at all levels.”

4. SOUNDBITE (French) Jean-Pierre Lacroix, United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Peace Operations:
“Although, once again, I repeat, challenges remain and these results are recognized, appreciated and they translate into an expression of confidence through the renewal of this mandate under conditions of unanimity and consensus. I believe it must be said because we are in a geopolitical environment characterized by divisions on most crises. Our Member States are divided, unable to move forward and the Security Council is very often blocked. Whether it is the crisis in Gaza, or the crisis in Sudan, or many other crises, you have these manifestations of division and sometimes blockage of the international community. And thanks to the work that has been done here by everyone. Well, the Central Africa and the Central African Republic benefit from a unanimous platform of support from the international community.”

The chief of UN peacekeeping Jean-Pierre Lacroix completed his week-long visit to the Central African Republic (CAR).
During a press conference earlier today (20 Dec), he highlighted the significant progress made in the country, crediting the collaborative efforts of the Central African people, their authorities, partners, and the diplomatic community.
Lacroix noted visible improvements in areas such as enhanced security and in some regions the extension of State authority, and the increased presence of uniformed forces, all of which are contributing to better living conditions for the people.
Lacroix also acknowledged that much remains to be done, noting that one of the key challenges for next year will be to unite efforts to ensure the elections are held in peaceful, transparent, and inclusive manner.
During his visit, Lacroix met with the country’s leaders, civil society, and our UN colleagues, he was in Bangui, and in Bambari.
