The flags of the following five newly-elected Member States of the UN Security Council (for 2025-2026) are installed: Denmark, Greece, Pakistan, Panama, Somalia. After their election by the UN General Assembly in June 2024, Denmark, Greece, Pakistan, Panama and Somalia begin their two-year terms serving as non-permanent members on the Security Council on 1 January 2025 The new members will join existing non-permanent members Algeria, Guyana, the Republic of Korea, Sierra Leone and Slovenia, whose terms started on 1 January 2024. The five permanent Council members, each wielding veto power, are China, France, Russia, the United Kingdom and the United States.
